Ever since we moved to our cottage I’ve had the dream that one day a hedgehog would come and stay.
But though we’ve had midnight sightings of badgers, a fleeting view of a fox and visits from all other manners of furry and feathered and even reptilian friends along the way, until now - no hedgehog.
Recently though, we thought we heard strange snuffling grunting noises in the leafy area behind our shed. A few unusual droppings that could, just could have come from a prickly passerby have been spotted under the hazelnut tree. My beloved even dreamt literally of a hedgehog coming to stay! (and believe me, he’s not the kind of guy who regularly dreams of hedgehogs).
But… as yet… we cannot lay claim to one as our guest.
However, there was a birthday in the house recently, visitors were invited and a cake had to be made and so, it felt like a sugar version might be the next best thing.
Here he is!
No recipes today (though the base of the cake and the icing are identical to the recipe I used for the yule log in my Christmas video)…
However the next entry is all about the perfect Autumn salad - a roasted homegrown baby pumpkin, goats cheese and walnut celebration! Watch this space for more!
Wishing you beautiful (and not necessarily hedgehog filled) dreams…
