"... I lay me down". Full of heart, longing, grace and silence but with an added edge...
Upon a simple background of piano and jazz bass, here Tanmayo explores her voice in more depth and the result is a simple yet new mature sound. Playful rifts on her new harp and exquisite electric guitar solos from Parijat bring the collection to a perfect completion.
A Zen Master was once asked 'What is Meditation?' He answered, 'Meditation lies in laying down.' But laying down what? Enlightened Mystic Osho answers, "...Laying down yourself - because nothing less will do. When we are dead, we 'lay down everything'. But only if we can be in this 'laying down' state alive is this meditation."
The songs in this collection came to me long before I discovered this quote. Born as they always are, from the deeper stirrings within my heart, the words and music simply tumble out. It's only later, as the project nears the completion stage that I'm able to see how the 'dots join together' and to understand for myself what the songs are actually saying to me.
Because, yes, my songs are a guide for me and in this album the message is clear. It's time to 'lay me down'...
